DILLON, Mont. — A Utah officer was vacationing in Montana when he sprang into action to stop an armed robbery.

DPS Officer Jeremy Barnes was with his wife at a store Feb. 19 when Terry Watson jumped over the pharmacy counter with a gun, the Missoulian reported.

Barnes wrestled with Waston. A shot was fired by the suspect, but no one was hit, according to KUTV. Barnes detained the suspect until local police arrived.

“He’s a top-rate, class-act guy. Didn’t want any, you know, any notoriety for it, nothing like that,” Dillon Police Chief Don Guiberson told KUTV. “Here is an individual that was out shopping with his family and on vacation. Ends up wrestling the guy, gets shot at, getting a gun put in his ribs.”

According to the Missoulian, Watson is facing felony charges for attempted deliberate homicide, two charges of assault with a weapon, robbery and criminal endangerment, as well as misdemeanors for discharging a firearm in city limits and a concealed weapons violation.
