SALT LAKE CITY — A unified police officer helped deliver his own child in the back of a cruiser, KUTV reported.
Officer Travis Clark attempted to take his wife to the hospital on April 19 when the baby just wouldn’t wait. Bexleigh was born on the side of the road with help from her dad.
“Everything I have been through in my entire life, this has been the craziest, the scariest and the most cool thing I have ever been a part of,” Clark told the news site.
“I kind of ran around the car and helped and I kind of caught the baby, flipped her [Clark’s wife, Paige] over and got her to start breathing,” he said.
The couple wrapped the baby in a birth bag while they waited for paramedics to arrive. Paige and Bexleigh were taken to a hospital to be checked out. Clark couldn’t believe what happened.
“Everything happened so fast, it didn’t really hit me until I was driving behind the ambulance,” he said. “That’s when I started to get emotional, I was like holy cow that just happened.”
