NEW LONDON, Wis. — A Wisconsin deputy saved a little girl’s birthday thanks to a kind gesture.
Eight-year-old Journey Huey was on her way to school with her grandmother when theo two got into a car wreck, Fox 11 News reports.
The two weren’t injured, but the cupcakes Journey and her grandmother spent the night before making from scratch to give to her classmates were destroyed.
The responding officer, Outagamie County Sheriff’s Deputy Sue Bolwerk, escorted the two to school after the crash, but wanted to do more to help.
“I thought, you know, she needs cupcakes on her birthday, so I ran down to FestivaI (Foods),” Bolwerk said. “I think I grabbed about 30 of them -- I wanted to make sure they had enough, and then brought them to the classroom.”
Both Journey and her grandmother were touched by the deputy’s gesture.
“There’s lots of good people out there, and we need to recognize them,” the grandmother said.
