CAMDEN, N.J. — The Camden County Police Academy was going to be shut down, but officials announced Monday that this is no longer so.
According to the Cherry Hill Courier Post, Camden County College will take on more of the costs of running the academy, and public officials in the county are helping out, too. The prosecutor’s office will staff the program and the county will pay the $60,000 salary of the director.
“We are pleased to reach an agreement with the college to continue providing this vital training to all the law enforcement agencies in the county,” said Prosecutor Warren Faulk in a statement.
The Courier-Post first reported last month that arrangements to keep the academy operational were under way, and While the next police cadet class won’t begin until January, in-service training for municipal police departments will continue through 2011.
Each year, hundreds of law enforcement officers receive training at the academy.
