FARMINGTON, N.M. — Police arrested a convicted sex offender at a middle school after he allegedly walked into the building dressed as a police officer and carrying a 6-inch folding knife.
Authorities said Kyle Lamone, 25, was cooperative during the arrest Tuesday at Tibbetts Middle School. He was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon on school grounds and impersonating a police officer, police Sgt. Daryl Noon said.
If convicted on both charges, Lamone faces nearly 2 1/2 years in prison.
Noon said Lamone had shown up on the middle school’s property dressed as a police officer at least twice since Jan. 1.
Tuesday’s incident was the first time Lamone, wearing a SWAT shirt and tactical pants, carried a weapon into the building, Noon said. It wasn’t clear why Lamone was at the school, but he allegedly identified himself to the principal as a police officer.
Lamone was convicted of two counts of criminal sexual penetration and one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor in June 2000,
