‘Facebook is the one-stop shopping model for online activity and information sharing’

GUELPH, Canada — The Guelph Police have officially joined the social-media movement with a new Facebook page.

“We feel that it is a great way to reach out to the under-30 crowd,” said Guelph Police spokesperson Sgt. Doug Pflug in a news release.

“Facebook is the one-stop shopping model for online activity and information sharing. We feel it prudent that we stay current with such social media opportunities and increase our ability to reach out to the citizens of Guelph and beyond.”

In addition to the “wall,” and the discussions, events and photos tabs, the page will also include “Twitter” and “GPS” tabs. There are opportunities to add additional tabs such as video and links that are in response to community and member suggestions, the release said.

“Facebook and similar media platforms have grown into an unbelievable information sharing network that is utilized by a totally new and untapped market base for us,” said Guelph Police chief Rob Davis in the release.

“This new initiative is an opportunity for the Guelph Police Service to be responsive to another untapped segment of our community by sharing meaningful, up-to-date information on issues and events local in nature.”
