DENVER, Colo. — An armed-robbery suspect remained at large late Wednesday after eluding police in a high-speed chase through Denver.
Police spotted the vehicle of 20-year-old Carlos Sanchez, a suspect in a recent robbery outside a Denver convenience store, about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Sonny Jackson, police spokesman.
Police pulled over the vehicle - described as a black Nissan or Acura SUV with license plate number 815-NEZ - at an apartment complex at 3300 W. Florida Ave.
After an unidentified person got out of the SUV and surrendered, Sanchez got behind the wheel and fled, nearly colliding with an officer, Jackson said.
An officer fired one shot at the SUV, but it was unknown if Sanchez was hit. “The

Jackson said police pursued the vehicle south on Santa Fe Drive, but pulled back near West Hampden Avenue after the SUV reached high speeds and collided with two other cars.
Flor Romero was driving north on Santa Fe when the black SUV, traveling south, came within inches of smashing into her. She said the car was probably traveling at more than 100 mph.
Following a tip on Sanchez’s whereabouts, police then raided a house at South Hazel Court and West Custer Place about 2:30 p.m., but Sanchez wasn’t at the house.
Two residents, Daniel Rojas and Daisy Juarez, later said Sanchez had been staying at the house occasionally until Sunday, when he told them the cops were looking for him and left.
Juarez said Sanchez has a history of crime, including auto theft and weapons charges.
