LANCASTER, N.Y. — A young Lancaster man wanted for an armed robbery in Depew early Sunday was arrested after a high-speed chase through four suburban communities, police reported.

Daniel D. Frederick Jr., 20, of Michael Anthony Lane, is accused of ramming his car into a Lancaster police cruiser, speeding away and then hitting the same police cruiser again.

That collision caused Frederick to lose control of his vehicle and hit a tree on Borden Road, near Lynnette Court in Cheektowaga, where he was arrested.

Lancaster Police Officer Mark D. DiPirro, who was driving the cruiser Frederick hit, suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization, police reported.

Depew police said the incident began at about 3:15 a.m. when a man robbed the Noco Express gas station at 2150 George Urban Blvd. at knifepoint.

The thief took $518 and fled in a vehicle. He was spotted later by DiPirro, who was checking the area for the getaway vehicle.

Lancaster police said DiPirro tried to pull Frederick over, but he refused to stop, turned around on a lawn, rammed into DiPirro’s police cruiser and sped away.

That pursuit began in Depew, continued into Lancaster, then into West Seneca before it ended in Cheektowaga.

DiPirro and Depew Police Officer John Thomson apprehended Frederick. Police said charges are pending and could include robbery, assault, reckless driving and other traffic offenses.
