BEREA, S.C. — A Greenville County sheriff’s deputy has been placed on administrative leave after he was seen forcefully subduing a man inside an Upstate Walmart on Saturday, according to Master Deputy Jonathan Smith.
Several witnesses recorded videos showing the deputy shocking the suspect with a stun gun and striking the suspect numerous times. The videos were quickly posted and shared on social media, but Smith said there was much more that the cell phone videos did not capture.
Smith said deputies were called to the Walmart on White Horse Road just after 1 p.m. Saturday in reference to a man acting strangely and disturbing shoppers at the store.
