DALLAS — A Dallas police motorcycle officer injured while escorting President Barack Obama on Monday has been identified.

Senior Cpl. Michael Manis was in good condition and was staying overnight at Parkland Memorial Hospital for observation, Dallas Police Department spokeswoman Janice Crowther said.

The motorcade crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. ET, police said. The president’s vehicle was not reported to be involved in the accident.

Obama was in Texas on Monday in part to raise money for Democratic candidates.

In 2008, a Dallas police motorcycle officer died from a crash during an escort for then-presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton. The family of Senior Cpl. Victor Lozada has since filed a lawsuit against Clinton and city of Dallas.
