The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department initiated a comprehensive wellness program for its officers and staff, recognizing the importance of wellness amid the challenging climate following the protests of 2020.
This led to the creation of The Summit Wellness Center, a facility designed to support the physical, mental, spiritual, social and financial wellbeing of all local first responders and their families.
The center, which opened in October 2023, offers a wide range of services including a gym, mental health resources, a chaplain, social wellness programs and financial wellness classes, demonstrating a significant step toward improving the overall health and morale within the department.
Then, in 2023, the department’s wellness unit showcased its critical role in providing comprehensive support following an officer-involved shooting at the Old National Bank in 2023. The unit demonstrated effective response and resilience through collaboration and comprehensive strategies.
