Retired Calif. cop thwarts laptop burglary

The suspects handed over the product and ran from the scene

Chico Enterprise-Record

CHICO — A retired Chico police officer interrupted a vehicle burglary outside Off the Wall Soccer on East 20th Street about 8:30 p.m. Monday, and managed to recover a laptop computer the thieves had already grabbed.

Kevin Coloumbe, who retired recently from the department, thought two people crawling around inside a vehicle looked suspicious and detained them after calling police.

He reportedly talked them into turning over a laptop computer until officers responded. The suspects complied, then ran from the scene.

Police did an extensive search of the area around Community Park and Chapman School, but didn’t locate the suspects. The laptop was returned to the victim.
