FEMA: La. police to lose housing in less than two weeks

NEW ORLEANS- With two cruise ships housing hundreds of New Orleans police and firefighters due to sail away in less than two weeks, the Federal Emergency Management Agency says their needs will be met with either travel trailers or personal housing arrangements.

But the New Orleans Police Foundation says housing first-response officers is developing into a crisis that could affect the long-term safety of the city.

Police Superintendent Warren Riley said Wednesday that FEMA trailers, which provide about 250 square feet of space, will be inadequate for the workers - and could result in many officers taking positions with other departments...
