Fla. Deputies Reject Union

News4Jax (Jacksonville, Fla.)

Sworn officers with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office have voted against allowing the Fraternal Order of Police to unionize the force.

In two days of voting, the deputy class voted 33 percent in favor of unionization; 67 percent against. The supervisor class voted 81 percent against unionization.

Although Clay County Sheriff Scott Lancaster was adamantly opposed to unionization, a statement from his office said that he would respect whatever decision his employees made.

“What this vote means to me is that the men and women of the CCSO want their sheriff representing them, not a union,” Lancaster said in the statement. “I appreciate that this was a difficult decision, but I am very pleased with the outcome.”
