KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A Kansas City man was charged Thursday with knowingly exposing another person to HIV after he bit a police officer during an arrest, the Jackson County prosecutor’s office said.
Prosecutors also charged Gregory L. Simmons, 37, with driving while intoxicated, driving with a revoked license and careless and impudent driving.
Simmons was stopped on May 31 after officers noticed him driving erratically, according to a probable cause statement. While he was being placed in the patrol car, he bit a police officer on the right arm, breaking the skin, the statement said.
Simmons told the officer he had AIDS and a later blood test confirmed that he was HIV positive, according to the prosecutor.
