Florissant, Mo. (AP) -- Federal authorities questioned two men Tuesday after a suburban St. Louis police officer found an estimated half million dollars worth of cocaine during a traffic stop Monday.
Florissant Police Chief Bill Karabas said an officer saw a 2000 Volvo sedan run a red light and pulled the car over around 8 p.m. Monday.
The officer questioned the men, said their stories didn’t match, and then found a small amount of marijuana in the driver’s door compartment.
During a more thorough search, the officer found a box. “Inside the box,” said Karabas, “was nine kilos of cocaine.”
The two suspects were at the St. Louis headquarters of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency Tuesday. Police said one of the men is from Tennessee; the other is from Michigan.
