(ROANOKE, Va.) -- City police have added to the list of charges against a Chester man who led authorities on a two-county chase last week.

Radford police have charged Carl R. Carden, 59, with malicious wounding, destruction of property and eluding law enforcement officers. Those charges are in addition to three counts of attempted murder of a police officer, three counts of reckless driving and three counts of attempting to elude police filed Friday by Virginia State Police and Christiansburg police.

The chase started about 12:30 a.m. Friday in Radford when a city officer tried to stop Carden for speeding. Carden kept going, leading officers into Christiansburg, onto Interstate 81, back into Radford and again into Christiansburg.

During the chase, Carden rammed three police cars and another driver’s car. He drove over tire deflation devices twice before driving into a ditch on Peppers Ferry Road.
