HOUSTON — A congresswoman has given the Justice Department a copy of 2010 surveillance video showing Houston police allegedly beating a 15-year-old burglary suspect.
U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee joins Congressman Al Green in seeking a federal investigation in the Chad Holley case.
Nancy Herrera with the U.S. attorney’s office on Monday said the FBI has opened an investigative file into the matter. Herrera says the U.S. attorney’s office is monitoring the state investigation. She declined further comment.
A community activist this month released a copy of the video to KTRK-TV. Officers appear to be kicking and stomping Holley.
Holley in October was convicted in juvenile court of burglary and put on probation.
Four officers who were fired face charges. Prosecutors had asked that the video not be released until their trials.
