STOCKTON, Calif. — Prosecutors say they will not file charges against a father and son arrested on suspicion of kidnapping the father’s ex-wife in Northern California to perform an exorcism.

San Joaquin County Deputy District Attorney Robert Himelblau declined to say why 42-year-old Jose Magana-Farias and 20-year-old Victor Farias would not be charged, according to The Record of Stockton.

Sheriff’s Deputy Les Garcia says prosecutors cited insufficient evidence. He didn’t know whether authorities would continue to investigate.

The father and son were accused of kidnapping 41-year-old Blanca Farias from Stockton on Saturday and were arrested, but have since been released.

Blanca Farias told News10 in Sacramento they told her she had devils inside her and took her to a church, where they bathed her in oil and made her drink it.
