Manchester, NH — Police said they coordinated a trick to get a man to leave his Sargent Station Road home Tuesday fearing he’d seek a gun battle with police if they showed up there.
Robert Hatstat, 48, of 86 Sargent Station Road #10, Weare, was arrested and charged with felony reckless conduct and felony criminal threatening in connection with the incident.
He was arraigned yesterday in Goffstown District Court and ordered held on $5,000 cash bail pending a mental health evaluation.
Police said they got Hatstat’s brother-in-law to lure him out of his home about 10 a.m. Tuesday, calling to say he found work for him and he’d bring him to a job site. But there was no job site.
Officers said they needed to get Hatstat out of the house because he had strategically placed guns around his home for easy access in case officers arrived, according to court papers. Hatstat had also allegedly pointed a shotgun at his estranged wife and 24-year-old daughter when they arrived to gather personal belongings earlier, documents said.
Police said when the brother-in-law picked up Hatstat, Hatstat walked outside holding a rifle. Hatstat left the rifle inside, then got into a pickup truck so the pair could drive to the “work site,” police said.
Officer Kenneth Cox and Detective Frank Hebert were stationed at the corner of River Road and Riverdale Road. When truck drove by, a traffic stop was conducted and an unarmed Hatstat was taken into custody.
