US Capitol Police Chief to retire in May

WASHINGTON — The chief of the U.S. Capitol Police says he plans to retire at the end of May.

Phillip D. Morse has spent 28 years with the congressional law enforcement agency and has served as chief since 2006. According to The Washington Post, Morse pans to take a job in the private sector.

Morse said in a statement that his new position will allow him to spend more time with his family. He did not offer details about the job.

The Capitol Police is responsible for security at all congressional facilities and employs about 1,775 officers.
