Police have captured a convicted murderer who escaped from corrections officers Wednesday morning during a visit to Altoona Hospital.
Few details were released about the 1:52 p.m. capture of 29-year-old Christopher Gerlach, who was serving a life sentence for second-degree murder at the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale.
Gerlach escape from the hospital at about 10:58 a.m. and stole a purple PT Cruiser. Police from Altoona, Logan Township and state police participated in the manhunt.
