AMARILLO, Texas — Two Amarillo policemen have been put on paid leave during a review of the fatal Christmas Day shooting of a suspect.
The case involving Corporals Richard Ray and Eddie Stallings is expected to go to a grand jury in January.
The officers were attempting to arrest 34-year-old Duane Schneider on felony auto burglary and misdemeanor credit card abuse warrants.
On officer used a Taser on the man and patrol cars were blocking the suspect’s car, but Schneider rammed the law enforcement vehicles in an attempt to escape.
Police say Stallings feared he was about to be hit by Schneider’s car, so he shot the suspect.
Schneider managed to drive away before crashing his car into a house. He was pronounced dead at an Amarillo hospital.
Autopsy results are pending.
The officers weren’t hurt.
