COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Cobb County police officer was shot and wounded early Tuesday during a traffic stop near Marietta.
The shooting happened about 2:30 a.m. in front of an office building on Powers Ferry Road between Windy Hill Road and I-285.
The officer, whose name has not been released, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, according to Cobb police spokesman Mike Bowman.
A Volvo believed to have been involved in the traffic stop was later found nearby, but police were still looking for a red Dodge Stratus with Georgia tag PJG 7617 that was seen with the Volvo earlier in the evening, Bowman said.
Bowman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that police were looking for three suspects, two men and a woman.
He described one of the males as white, in his late 20s, with a crew cut, heavily-tattooed arms and a “Nike Swoosh” tattoo under one of his eyes. He was wearing denim shorts over black sweatpants and a red shirt over a black hoodie, Bowman said.
The woman was described by Bowman as white with long, “dirty blonde” hair. She was wearing a wool cap with some sort of emblem on it, a gray shirt and a beige hooded jacket.
He did not have a description of the second man being sought.
At 6 a.m., a manhunt for the suspects was being concentrated in the Chattahoochee Chase townhome complex on Powers Ferry Road at the Chattahoochee River.
