MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) -- Police are investigating whether a dangerous batch of heroin is on the streets, causing overdoses and two deaths during the weekend.
“We are trying to locate a source as quickly as we can,” said Sgt. Mark Fowke. “The word has to go out because we don’t want anyone else to be victimized.”
Investigators are working to see if the drugs were tainted or especially potent, or if people simply have been injecting too much. The investigation so far indicates a “dangerous supply” of heroin may be responsible, Fowke said.
Police are not releasing the names of the dead or their addresses. They say they do not want to tip off their suppliers. The victims lived in apartment buildings within several blocks of each other, near downtown, Fowke said. Their deaths were reported Saturday.
“We have a situation where there are goods out there that are potentially fatal,” Fowke said. “We also have investigative concerns” trying to find the source.
