DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office released footage Monday of a suspect drawing and aiming a weapon at three deputies during an Aug. 31 traffic stop, according to KDVR.
Sheriff Tony Spurlock said during a news conference that the officers had pulled Paul Askins over for a traffic violation. Askins repeatedly gave the officers false identifying information. Officers then asked him to exit his vehicle.
That’s when Askins pointed a gun at the deputies, according to bodycam footage. The deputies fired and killed him.
Askins had multiple El Paso County felony warrants at the time of the incident, KDVR reported.
Neither the deputies nor the passengers in Askins’ car were injured.
