SAN JACINTO, Calif. — A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy was injured after intervening in a fight between two high school students Friday, according to the Press-Enterprise.
A male student was attacking a female student when the deputy, who is also the school resource officer, tried to break them up, a witness told KCBS.
“You don’t touch a woman. You’re going to be arrested,” the deputy told the male student, the witness said.
When the male student refused to stop and wouldn’t be subdued, the deputy drew his baton and hit the student’s legs.
That’s when the student lunged, tackling the officer to the ground, the witness told KCBS.
The student also managed to take the officer’s baton, KCAL9 reported.
Cell phone footage shows the officer on his back on the ground while the student throws a punch.
The officer was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The student was arrested.
