JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A K-9 with the Jacksonville, Florida Sheriff’s Office was shot and killed earlier this week. Sarge, the K-9 who was shot and killed, had take-down numbers that exceded the average for the unit’s 18 dogs. Watch the video below for more information on the incident.
A Facebook page has also been set up in Sarge’s honor. The following tribute comes from that page:
“K9 Sarge, a Police Service Dog with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, was a great partner that did his duty without any hesitation. On 12/27/2010, Sarge was killed in the line of duty while apprehending an armed robbery suspect.
One couldn’t pick a better task oriented dog that was always eager to go to work and serve his handler. He was a mix between a Belgian Malenois and a German Shepard.
Sarge’s handler, Officer Smith is my best friend and more like a brother. I have watched Sarge grow over time from the day he met his new handler, through training and numerous deployments. And I have watched Officer Smith bond with his partner and guardian.
Sarge did what he was taught to do and that was to protect. He gave his life with no hesitation and for that we are all very grateful.
He will be missed and never forgotten. Thank you, Sarge.”
