SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane police arrested a man on charges of kidnapping and robbery at Geno’s restaurant, where they say he threatened to kill patrons Tuesday night.
Travis D. Floyd, 34, is accused of trying to steal a woman’s cellphone and then trying to kidnap her as she walked in the Gonzaga University neighborhood around 8p.m.
She fled into the business at 1414 N. Hamilton St. Floyd followed and toldpatrons he had a gun, according to court records filed Wednesday. He threw a chair, broke glasses and said he was ready to shoot people.
As he left the businessby the back door, police arrived. Floyd ran back inside and grabbed a customer by the neck, the records say.
He ignored police orders to release the man: “He’s not going anywhere,” Floyd told police, according to court records.
Police said Floyd fought back as they attempted to arrest him, so they sicced police dog Stryder, a 90-pound German shepherd, on him.
The dog bit Floyd on the lower part of his leg. Police grabbed Floyd, and he passed out.
Floyd received medical assistance for the dog bite and was booked into Spokane County Jail for one count each of first-degree robbery, first-degree kidnapping andattempted first-degree kidnapping, and eight counts of felony harassment.
His bond was set at $200,000 at a court appearance Wednesday.
Police commended the woman for running into the businessto safety instead of allowing Floyd to kidnap her.
When officers searched Floyd, they did not find a gun and could not determine what he had been pointing at the business’s customers, according to police.
