NEW YORK — The only man arrested in the aftermath of a deadly police shootout following a New York City block party has been cleared of all criminal charges.
Manhattan prosecutors announced Wednesday that a grand jury voted to dismiss all charges against Angel Alvarez stemming from the Aug. 8 mayhem.
He was freed after being held for six months on weapons possession counts.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether anyone else might be charged. Prosecutors declined to comment.
Police have said officers fired after the 24-year-old Alvarez shot at them. Alvarez was shot at least 15 times and denies firing at anyone.
A man Alvarez was fighting was killed. Two officers and three bystanders were hurt as police fired 46 bullets.
A lawyer for the police department declined to comment.
