PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has signed a bill that allows retired police officers to carry firearms into bars.
Republican Rep. Sonny Borrelli of Lake Havasu City sponsored the measure that lets retired sheriffs and police officers who served at least 10 years and were honorably discharged to carry their firearm into bars and stores that sell liquor.
Advocates say retired officers are trained to handle the volatile situations that can happen while people are drinking alcohol.
Democratic Sen. Steve Farley of Tucson says guns and alcohol don’t mix no matter what career a person comes from.
Last week Ducey signed two firearms bills that build on constitutional protections to carry firearms.
