HOUSTON — At least two suspects remained at large early Wednesday following a shooting that killed three people at a Midtown night club, police said.
Three men were pronounced dead on the scene, while a fourth was hospitalized in critical condition. They have not been identified.
Police said they have not received a clear description of the suspects. A possible third shooter could be involved, according to Houston Police Commander Caroleta Johnson.
Police initially were called at 9:45 p.m. to the DD Sky Club, located on the second floor of a strip mall, based on a report of several people dead inside, Johnson said.
Investigators learned that up to 30 people were inside for an open mic night, she said. At some point, one person appeared to instigate a fight, she said.
A security guard who was trying to break up the fight saw one person pull out a gun, she said. When the guard tried to grab it, a second person pulled out a gun and made threats, she said. Both men fired several shots, striking two men who were involved in the fight and two others who did not appear to be involved, Johnson said.
The security guard was not injured, she said.
She said the department is investigating whether the club was allowed to remain open under the current pandemic guidelines. Restaurants are allowed to remain open at 75 percent capacity under a September order from Gov Greg Abbott. Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo declined to opt into Abbott’s more recent order allowing bars to open at 50 percent capacity.
Investigators are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance videos.
