DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A DeKalb County police sergeant was killed Saturday when he was struck by a vehicle.
Sgt. Daniel Mobley, 44, was hit by a car while responding to a crash involving another DeKalb officer, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival, DeKalb police said. Mobley was a 22-year veteran of the department.
“Today is a sad day as the DeKalb County Police Department lost one of its guardian angels,” said police Chief Mirtha Ramos. “We will miss him dearly and our hearts go out to his family.”
Mobley had arrived to conduct a “supervisory investigation” of the crash involving the other officer when he was struck while getting out of his patrol car.
“We cannot express how much we appreciate the Grady Hospital staff who treated our sergeant,” the department posted. “We thank the Atlanta Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, the Atlanta Fire Rescue, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, and all of those who provided their support to the DeKalb County Police Department.”
