FAYETTE COUNTY, Pa. — A longtime Pennsylvania state constable from Fayette County has died from injuries sustained in a car crash more than a month prior, the Herald-Standard reported.
Philip J. Michael, 51, was en route to serve a warrant on May 3 when his vehicle was struck by another driver who allegedly ran a red light, according to the report. He died on June 6.
“I don’t think you’re going to find anyone in the court system or the community that has anything bad to say about Phil,” Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele stated. “Just a super nice guy. Always smiling. He was never having a bad day. I can’t say enough about him.”
Aubele, who knew Michael from his time as a defense attorney before becoming district attorney, described him as a dedicated family man and professional, according to the report.
“He was the go-to guy,” Aubele said. “He did a lot of the training and certification for the other constables. We consulted him for his expertise often, more than any other constable in the county.”
Michael is survived by his wife, two sons and two brothers, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page.
