$20K reward offered for info on NJ officer’s assault

A veteran police officer is recovering from an assault that left him with a serious head injury

LONG BRANCH, N.J. — A veteran police officer is recovering from an assault that left him with a serious head injury and authorities are offering a $20,000 reward for any information on the attack.

Long Branch police said an officer was investigating flashlights and movement behind an abandoned property early Tuesday morning. He was chasing one of the suspects when at some point Officer Michael Monahan was hit on the back of the head and knocked unconscious, NJ.com reported.

Monahan was found in the back of the property by other officers and taken to an area hospital. He is currently in stable condition with head and neck injuries, police report.

The NJ Cop Shot program is offering a $20,000 reward that leads to an arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible.
