WALLINGFORD, Conn. — A local man was arrested Wednesday after he was seen urinating in the street, police said. Two police officers were hurt when they tried to stop him from driving away, police said.

Steven Irish, 28, of 132 Clifton St. , was charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer, obstruction of justice, disorderly conduct, interfering with a police officer, possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana, possession of a narcotic and possession of drug paraphernalia.

As officers approached Irish at about 3:30 p.m., Irish tried to get away in his car, police said. The officers were injured when they were dragged momentarily before making the arrest, police said. They were treated for minor injuries.

Police later found marijuana and empty heroin bags in his vehicle.

Irish’s bond was set at $100,000 and he is due to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 7.
