One thing that gets put aside in the midst of an officer’s daily grind is any type of regular dry-fire practice routine. If you can post a target in your garage or basement, you are set.
With an unloaded firearm (using snap caps if you have them), practice with your duty gear by facing your target, and:
1. drawing your weapon (quickly, with an effective grip)
2. obtaining a sight picture, and
3. pressing the trigger (dry firing).
You are not only practicing dry firing--which, by itself, will increase your accuracy at the range or in the field--but target aquistion and timing to your first shot. 5 minutes each time, a few days a week, and you’ll notice the difference, guaranteed.
