PORTLAND, Ore. — Police are searching for suspects after a group marched through the city Saturday night, vandalizing businesses and setting a dumpster on fire at the Portland Police Bureau’s North Precinct.
In a press release, police said the group gathered at a park on Saturday and began to march around 9 p.m. The group broke windows at several businesses, launched explosive devices at a building and damaged bus shelters. The group then continued to the North Precinct, where one of them started a dumpster fire. Officers tried to put out the flames, but had to call the fire department, police said.
Portland Police shared photos of the damage, which showed smashed windows at a coffee shop, shattered glass at a bus station shelter, scorch marks and the dumpster fire.
Sgt. Aaron Schmautz, president of Portland Police Association, condemned the acts.
“Put simply, as we have said repeatedly, we must not suffer the whim of violent cowards,” Schmautz told FOX 12. “When groups state that they intend to engage in violence and then destroy businesses, they must be held accountable. They must be arrested, prosecuted, and held to account by local, state, and federal partners.”
No arrests were immediately made and the incident remains under investigation.
