Learn what’s going on without asking a single question

When approaching a disturbance scene, don’t immediately knock on the door and ask what’s going on. If possible, stand outside the door in a safe location, and listen to what the argument is really about. You’ll be in a better position to learn about the reasons for the argument than if you were present and questioning the subjects, including whether or not drugs or weapons might be involved. Having that knowledge before you engage can make a huge difference in mitigating risk.
