WATERBURY, Conn. — Police have arrested a man who attempted to disarm an officer who was holding a door open for him at a gas station on Monday.
According to FOX 61, two officers were leaving a gas station when one of the officers held the door open for 46-year-old Matthew Patterson.
As the officers headed to their patrol car, Patterson attacked and attempted to disarm the LEO who opened the door for him. While the officer was defending his gun, police say he fell to the ground.
“Patterson was unsuccessful in taking the gun from the holster,” a release said. “Patterson fled on foot and ignored the officer’s verbal commands to stop. The second officer deployed a TASER at Patterson which was not effective in stopping him.”
Patterson resisted arrest but was eventually handcuffed.
Both officers were injured during the incident but are expected to recover.
Patterson is charged with assault of police officer, interfering with police, criminal attempt at theft of a firearm and reckless endangerment.
