GLENDALE, Ariz. — An Arizona chief is crediting two detectives for providing critical lifesaving aid to a police sergeant injured in a gunfire exchange.
The Arizona Republic reports that Glendale Sgt. Robert “Kent” Livingston was shot by 44-year-old suspect Stephen Hudak as he fled from police. Chief Rick St. John credited detectives David Turley and Jimmy Carlo for using a trauma kit to treat Livingston’s wounds and ultimately saving his life.
“Their quick thinking and clear heads under extreme duress allowed them to immediately apply critical lifesaving first aid to Sergeant Livingston and we are forever indebted to them,” St. John said.
On Friday, police were attempting to arrest Hudak, a wanted felon, when he fired at officers during three separate encounters. Livingston was shot in a shopping center parking lot, Glendale police spokesman Tiffany Smith said.
Hudak was eventually killed by Officer Dave Norman after the suspect was located in a nearby residential neighborhood.
Smith said Livingston remains in serious condition.
“We are praying for a full recovery,” St. John said in a statement. “The Glendale Police Department family will continue to remain by his side throughout his road ahead.”
