PHOENIX — Two officers fatally shot a man who treatened police with a baseball bat outside a Phoenix pool Monday afternoon.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the officers were not hurt, according to AZ Central.
Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump said the officers initially responded after receiving a phone call about a man behaving erratically and waving a baseball bat near the pool, which holds private lessons and is frequented by residents with disabilities.
They arrived and spoke to the man, who began to threaten bystanders with the bat before charging at the officers, Crump said. Each fired two or three rounds, hitting the man.
The officers are both police veterans of about 10 years.
