ANAHEIM, Calif. — Police say they have shot and killed a man accused of abducting his 5-year-old son after he allegedly killed the boy’s mother and her boyfriend at her home in Southern California.
Sgt. Rick Martinez says officers located Anthony Castillo at about 6 p.m. Wednesday outside an Anaheim apartment complex armed with a handgun.
Martinez says officers ordered Castillo to drop the weapon and when he did not comply, they opened fire. It’s not clear whether Castillo fired any shots.
Martinez says Castillo was taken to a local hospital where he died late Wednesday.
Police recovered a handgun at the scene.
Hours earlier, police say Castillo dropped off his son unharmed at a grandparent’s home after fleeing with him following the shooting deaths of the boy’s mother and a man.
