POWELL, Ohio — The theft of two handguns from a Powell shooting range — including a weapon that Columbus police say was fired at an officer — is the crime of the week in the Crime Stoppers program.
A man rented two guns from the Powder Room Indoor Target Range & Gun Shop on Feb. 9 and used them on the range. Saying he needed to get additional ammunition from his vehicle, he left the range, took the guns with him and did not return.
The guns were a Glock 22 .40-caliber, serial number FNH951, and a Springfield XD9 9 mm, serial number US926644.
Columbus police said the Glock was used by a 17-year-old who is accused of shooting at an officer Thursday night on the South Side. The officer, who wasn’t hit, returned fire and shot Dewayne T. Smith, who suffered minor injuries.
The man at the shooting range had the name “Haley” tattooed in script lettering on his neck. Surveillance video of him can be seen at www.stopcrime.org.
Crime Stoppers is offering up to $2,000 for information received by March 16 that leads to an arrest or indictment, and an additional $1,000 reward has been added because one of the guns has been used in a crime.
