JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — An Indiana trooper who was shot in the head during a traffic stop decided to show his gratitude toward the first responders who came to his aid.
WDRB reports that Trooper Morgenn Evans stopped by the Jeffersonville Fire Department to personally thank them for helping him after he was wounded Tuesday night. The fire department shared a photo of Evans and members of the department, saying they were “humbled” by his visit.

On Tuesday, Evans spotted a man driving on the wrong side of the road and pulled him over. After the suspect, Oscar Kays, failed a sobriety test, Evans pulled out his handcuffs before Kays pulled out a gun and shot the trooper in his head.
The bullet grazed Evans’ head, but the trooper was still able to fire back. A manhunt pursued after Kays fled. The suspect was eventually arrested at his home.
Kays faces several charges, including attempted murder of a police officer.
