NEW YORK — A New York City police officer has been shot at least twice while responding to a call in the Bronx.
The officer was conscious when he was rushed to Lincoln Hospital on Monday. Police say it’s possible his bullet-resistant vest stopped at least one bullet, but he was hit twice in the stomach.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly headed to the hospital to offer support to the officer’s family.
Said Bloomberg: “Details are still coming in. We just don’t know how serious it’s going to be.”
The officer had been responding to a call at 3173 Park Ave. when he was hit around noon.
Police say a person who might have been involved was barricaded at that address.
