THOMASVILLE, N.C. — A man who was injured this week in an officer-involved shooting in Thomasville has reportedly died.

According to The Lexington Dispatch, a Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center spokeswoman said Tuesday afternoon that Scott William Muntz, 41, had died from wounds sustained in the shooting.

Muntz was taken to the hospital Monday night after he was shot by police who responded around 6:30 p.m. to reports that gunshots had been fired and a man was threatening to harm himself at a home at 193 Noah’s Trail.

Responding officers were attempting to contact the man, who was later identified as Muntz, when they said the suspect fired multiple shots from inside the home. A special response team attempted to negotiate with Muntz, who eventually walked out of the home with a pistol in his hand, police said.

Police said officers fired at Muntz after he failed to obey commands to drop the weapon and show his hands.

Four officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave pending the results of an SBI investigation.

No other details have been released.
