BALTIMORE — Body cam footage captured an officer getting shot in the hand during a struggle with an armed suspect.
The Baltimore Sun reports that the 30-year-old officer approached Allen Hosea Johnson Jr., 35, on Wednesday and asked him to show his hands after he suspected Johnson was armed.
Johnson refused to comply and a struggle ensued. The officer was shot in the hand during the confrontation, prompting another cop at the scene to use his TASER on Johnson.
Police recovered a .40 caliber handgun at the scene. The officer, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital for treatment and released.
The shooting occurred not long after Detective Sean Suiter, who was killed in the line of duty two weeks ago, was laid to rest. A police spokesman said some of the officers who responded to the call were still in their dress uniforms from Suiter’s funeral.
Johnson faces several charges, including attempted first- and second-degree murder.
