ONONDAGA, N.Y. — An Onondaga County sheriff’s deputy responding to a robbery call collided her patrol car with a pickup truck and a Salina home on Sunday.

No one was injured in the 4:30 p.m. accident on Seventh North Street, said Lt. John Anderson.

The sheriff’s department issued a ticket to the truck driver, David Calabro of Avon, charging him with failing to yield the right of way.

After colliding with Calabro’s vehicle, Deputy Kimberly Klink’s patrol car hit the front porch of 515 Seventh North St., a 11/2-story home owned by Gene and Gertrude Longale, causing damage to the property.

“It sounded like a sledgehammer slammed something real hard,” said Gene Longale, who was home at the time.

The accident occurred as the deputy was responding to a call of a robbery in progress at K-Mart Plaza in Mattydale.

State police, who investigated that incident, said it turned out to be a complaint about a shoplifter at K-Mart.

The shoplifting investigation is continuing, state police said.
