NEW YORK — NYPD officers will soon be equipped with cans of spray paint to battle graffiti around the city.
The New York Post reports cops are being trained to spray squares around graffiti tags and fill them in with black, red, or white spray paint.
Some officers are questioning the new directive — suggesting there are bigger issues to focus on as the summer months approach and violence, statistically, increases.
Officers have been told to photograph the tags before painting over them “in a professional manner,” according to the report.
Store owners will also be strongly urged to file criminal complaints if they become victims of graffiti.
